Susan Schurz

Susan Shurz owns Tavern Hill, a professional custom drapery workroom that provides made-to-order window treatments and home décor accessories which are sold specifically to the interior design industry. She specializes in high-end window treatments and accessories hand crafted with careful attention to details. Susan established Tavern Hill in 1988, before opening her drapery workroom she studied Textile Arts at Virginia Commonwealth University. Her path was also influenced by her Mother who began working in drapery workrooms when Susan was five years old.
In 2003 Susan became an instructor for The Custom Home Furnishings Academy where she teaches Window Treatment 104, High End Fabrication Methods. She is a popular speaker for industry conferences and associations and mentors industry peers through online forums, networking and personal relationships.
Susan and her company are well respected both nationally and locally. Her work has been published in several books and she is a contributor to industry publications such as the Custom Home Furnishings Magazine and Drapery and Window Coverings magazine. She is a member of the Window Coverings Association of America (WCAA), serving as Vice President for the Richmond, VA chapter. Susan\\\\\\\'s artistic talents can be seen in her book, Sketches for Home Décor.
When asked what she enjoyed most about teaching Susan said "I am so inspired by the creativity and enthusiasm that the students bring to class. In every class there is an exchange of new ideas and a shared love of this industry. We all learn from each other."
